I have always loved writing, I’ve been writing for free for forever that, being paid for my words is a different kind of level. Because whereas I am more than capable of writing words and giving them for no cost at all.
I am now aware that there is a cost, that if no one else is incurring. I certainly am and even though it’s free, it’s really not. Getting paid, respected, valued, appreciated, these are the by-products of paying the cost with my very own time. Put another way with my own life force.
The charge is nowhere near my value, but the goal isn’t to charge people value according to my value, but according to how much they value the time spent and the effort involved with that time.
The distinction is interesting to note, because where I certainly love writing and you can’t put a price on that experience. I’m however beginning to understand that you can’t put a price on that and that always confuses creatives when it comes to pricing their own goods.
With the biggest question being am I this valuable? Or is my work this valuable? Which I found stressed me out😂 instead of wondering if the amount reflected my value I began to ask myself, would I be willing to pay for this myself?
In becoming comfortable with being able to afford my own words neatly packed. It made it easier to set a price because I wasn’t valuing my neatly packed words by how much one person could afford to buy it but by how much I would want to buy my own books.
Hence, you’re not paying the price for my acquired skills or how amazing I think the work might be, but simply because I would buy it for that price, I’m glad others agree too😊
