Different Classes

In lieu of world events, and a previous article of mine, Are we Equal? I recieved a fascinating response which pivoted our discussion to the illusion of the middle class being independent of the low class. Basically she said there are only two classes, low and high class. What an interesting thought I pondered…

Who makes part of the high, middle and low class? And what does it all mean?

Hello, welcome back to my blog or glad you’ve visiting if you’re a first timer. Whatever the case take valuable care of yourself and drop a comment if you’re so inclined. ❤

Now the high class are generally known for being the wealthiest in society or for holding great political power.

The middle class are a whole other problem, scholars can’t really seem to agree with what this “middle class” actually means. Definitions to this end are merely used to suit the purpose of those seeking to employ its services.

With that being the case, allow me to define it as, a capitalist would. The middle class basically referred to as petite bourgeoisie. Basically a deputy kaboyi (gaurd). Meaning this group takes care of the keys to the Upper class castle, but they also work with the low class. At this point it’s safe to say, I was beginning to believe the thoughts of she that perked my curiosity…

She said the middle class is an illusion and that’s how they keep us chained

And then we have the low class, popularly known as the working class. Called the working class because this group typically use their labour to earn a living. So do we have a “middle class”?

Technically speaking, if you can classify something and it plays within the rules set then that thing well and truly exists. It would be pointless to discuss it any other way.

But this is about more than definitions, after all they created definitions too. This is about that gut feeling deep in your tummy. That little itch in the back of your head screaming out something is completely wrong, but we just can’t quite figure out what it is that’s wrong.

Three different class systems, or maybe two? What happens if we just removed the middle class keeping only the extremes. There would be two camps, high and working class.

The high class are considered as 1% of the population having more than 90% of the wealth. So 1% of the population possibly also makes the rules and regulations.

Which then means, that in the real world away from theories, the “middle class” don’t actually exist. It’s an illusion created to set a middle standard that provides false comfort.

False in the sense that the working class want so badly to become middle class just so that we can say, well my life isn’t perfect but at least I’m not in the working class. When in reality, we may no longer be paddling, but we still working the boat.

The theory convinces us a lie, and so before we can collectively fight unjust rules and regulations. We face the theory convincing us to attain this “middle class” level. I don’t think there is a middle class level, because there are only two levels. We have those suffering on a daily basis and then we have those who have the means of production.

If not sure of this simply think, when the world goes to the deepest of pits, where is the middle class when the working class are waging war against the owners of production? Can’t figure it out? Well they are either on the owners of production side or the working class side. They usually always pick a side to belong and never do they stand alone.

Recognising where we truly lie will motivate us, knowing which battles we have to actually fight, will take us on a journey laced with good intentions to see ourselves rid of being in this low class.

Because honestly there should only be one class and it should be sustainable for all the citizens. If we are all willing to be sustainable, we could all work out the best path to developing our beautiful nation, without being worried about a class system because every school, hospital, community will be crafted to match a standard of quality and excellence worthy of a Zambian citizen.

So maybe we have class systems in place but let’s work on evolving as a people for the benefit of our society. Class systems are foul, encouraging the lose of focus on what is important.

We are one class, the Zambian class as Our first President rightly put it; One Zambia, One Nation. We succeed or fail based on how well we work as a country and if we can align our goals. However for so long as we distinguish ourselves we only create the prejudice and that will always create room for classes to fester.

Are we satisfied with the classes we belong to? do we think this is the only way to encourage growth? Do you believe it possible to fight for a true, One Zambia, One Nation? Do leave your comments below and tell me what you think…
