Every year round my birthday I get this deep feeling to run off into seclusion and unplug from the world. It makes sense as my birthday is 3 days before December and December always feels like it’s time to unwind and go on holiday.
I firstly don’t like the attention that birthdays generally bring because all the attention is on me. How does one manage to not walk straight into every wall with everyone trying to get a happy birthday in every couple of seconds.
It’s not bad having everyone around but I consider my birthday more to be a point of reflection after all that is my own version of a happy new year. Whether it truly is happy is another point entirely. But I always feel like, a swing next to a body of water and a house in seclusion is what I my spirit yearns for.
In its place I had to make due with any moment of silence I could find stretching all the way into our common shared new year. Which by the way might I add, happy new year to you all. Covid and chaos seem to be the order of the day as people become more and more restless and I hope you are safe and away from the chaos but if you are not. I hope you can find yourself to safety.
So a break was necessary, away from making content especially in long form like my blog. I was active on other platforms but here is where I usually undress and let my thoughts run uncensored.
In that space of hiatus so many difficult decisions had to be made. Things to let go off and things to keep. Evaluating my year and having to decide if I’m happy with the me I’ve become or if I’ve let myself down in some ways.
It’s not an easy process to explain but I walked around with this invisible luggage weighing me down and I couldn’t unpack it for some reason. I don’t even remember how it started but the first thing I had to decide to let go off which I had been working on diligently was my need to write a fictitious novel. I ended up deciding my mind wasn’t ready to create that and i have taken a 10 year break before i can revisit that idea again.
Instead I felt the need to write a pocket sized book on communication which is finished and soon will be published. By the time the new year kicked in for us all and we got calendar changes I felt light as a feather.
Its near impossible for me to pinpoint what changed but I guess my hours or searching for seclusion finally paid off and I got enough me time to amount to what the vacation would probably have been.
I’m not saying I did anything special or that I had secret techniques or formulas I just knew I needed to reset and even though I wouldn’t advise my process onto anyone I would definitely advise everyone to intentionally escape from their busy lives as often as possible and just take a break from the hustle and bustle of life.
Welcome to 2021 may this year prove better than any year before it. If for no other reason than because you’re alive then let that be the reason that gives meaning to this new season as we begin to reconnect with the world we inhabit.
Expect more interaction and content from me as I hope my life can be a flare for anyone feeling lost and confused in this world. You are not alone, I might write beautifully but believe I understand all too well the pains of life and I aim to share them with you all one step at a time.
Stay blessed, be happy and spread love. Until next time
