Like are you in love with your country? Not a political party, not simply your neighbourhood but the entire country! If you love it, what does that look like? Do you fight for your rights or do you just fight? Do you clean up the community? Or just your yard? Like how do you know you are in love with your country.
A lot of times we are patriot if it benefits us. I always thought being a patriot was about the greater good, which is everyone in the whole country. If it has an expense then it should only be at the expense of those who decide to put themselves on the line. The ones who want to be voted in.
Being progressive, being about development especially when you become a public servant should always be about the good of the nation. Funny enough, if you belong to a certain country then by default you are a public servant. Even without the office. To be patriot isn’t to sit, vote and watch others decide your fates and yet this has become the norm.
To line own pockets at the expense of everyone including the future generations. Why is patriotic based on politics? Why is it not based on land? Who takes care of the soil best? Who is looking out for their fellow person? Who is teaching the history we’ve been creating? Patriotic isn’t just about paper currency, it’s about keeping the heritage alive. At least I hope so. The heritage involves stripping the vile and keeping the good parts of us and building from there.
2021 is around the corner and people are triggered, or looking to be triggered. People are mad others don’t want to vote because they feel lazy and others want to vote for anyone to be in power as long as it’s not the current government. Both wrong for so many different reasons but the one who doesn’t want to vote gets demonized. I’m here worried we are voting from pain and yes it hurts. We have really suffered, we are broke, hungry and broken.
Yet I talk of patriotism, I don’t know I feel like sometimes we have given up on ourselves. Lost hope and hoping that one of us is not lost or blind. Hoping that we can throw our combined burden on a few souls and hope that’s the trick. Abra Kadabra.
Patriotism is about not being corrupt as much as it is about being an accountable citizen. But in truth everything starts with the head and the executive of a nation counts as the head, no wonder the president of a nation is known as the Head of State.
So I guess the person who decides to take us forward better have a strong plan that the entire nation buys into. Otherwise most of us wont try to be patriotic after the elections we’ll revert back to waiting for the next elections and even though we claim voting is the most patriotic thing anyone can do. I think its probably the opposite. If all we do is wait to cast a vote then we are the most unpatriotic people ever.
Why would we watch our house burn down and not save it because we were waiting on the ones who started the fire to put it out. I don’t know, but anyway, do you patriot?
