There are moments in life where we are completely uncertain of what to do. We know the answer but the possibility of doing this other thing and all its opportunities can be blinding and all of a sudden the right thing to do isn’t so clear.
But we’ve all been in situations where it falls in your lap, the opportunity. To do something that feels a little funky and it will lead to a good, quick pay out. The funky feeling doesn’t even have an explanation but you just feel off. Is that feeling uncomfortable in your own skin worth not doing the right thing?
We also have technicalities, and loopholes that excite us when it comes to doing the right. “You know technically” or “actually according to what was stated” you know any little thing we can use to get an unfair advantage.
It could be as simple as helping yourself to food from the pot and not fessing up when asked. I read an interesting story today, about a local wizard in one of our villages. A boy happened to steal bananas from the local Wizard and upon the inquiry of the Wizard no one fessed up and so the Wizwrd declared the thief would rot away just like a banana. True enough a the thief first got yellow like a banana then he began to turn black until his last breathe.
Whether the story is true or false can you imagine the agonising pain to not fess up and apologise? The right thing to do can be hard with all the temptations in our lives but doing the right thing, is always the right thing.
Mostly we don’t do the right thing because it will be awkward or painful in the short term. Or I don’t want to get embarrassed. But the freedom I get when I do the right thing makes it easier because I don’t have to remember anything that didn’t happen. I don’t have to think on my feet I don’t even need to prepare a defence because the truth will always be my defence. Even if the truth may be awkward.
In a life and world where we need to rush, to be number 1 constantly. To get the upper hand over others we sometimes take “short cuts” and those cuts become weights on our shoulders.
Doing the right thing saves us from facing the constant attack on our mental health with keeping up to anything. Because our default will be kindness, fairness, justice. Doing what is right, regardless of the consequences, is always the right thing to do.
When you feel stuck with how to handle something, simply ask yourself what is the right thing to do and do that all the time.

I hope you’re well and in positive spirits.
