Mental Monday! Rehab!

Not the most appealing word in the world and yet Rehabilitation is crucial if we are to survive get better and eventually thrive in this upside down world we inhabit.

Hello and welcome to Mental Monday. Mental health is extremely important, note we are not concerned with the illness but with being healthy regardless of the illness. Most importantly, even more important than speaking on mental health we hope you become love personified and share love everywhere you go.

Rehabilitation once a scary term used for junkies has now been expanded to include none drug related forms of rehabilitation. In fact rehab is simply a place to get better from. According to WHO Rehabilitation is a set of interventions needed when a person is experiencing or is likely to experience limitations in everyday functioning.

Rehab is simply another way in which we seek for help. The common scenario when it comes to rehab is when someone is taken usually by force. Most times the perception towards rehab is that we need to be having a breakdown.

A breakdown is the extreme of course but when it comes to Mental health I believe the correct time to seek help is when we simply feel the overwhelm of life hit. That’s your mind having a migraine and unlike a migraine you can’t just pop some meds.

This requires seeing a trained professional who can help you get the desired outcome you would like from your life. Luckily Zambia now has plenty of rehabilitation facilities. I use rehabilitation instead of therapy centres because alot of our mental stress comes from not dealing with our physical stress, it’s kinda like a two for special.

Where we found fear in the stigma of getting the help we require now there is a normalcy creeping in. Honestly even if there wasn’t a normalcy why would you stop yourself from getting better?

Your health is your wealth my Big Mummy absolutely loved reminding me of that. Because no matter what resources you have at your disposal, if you’re not healthy you’ll never be able to enjoy what you worked so hard to achieve.

Some places you can get professional help from

1. University teaching hospital

2. Chainama hospital

3. Renaisense

4. Sandi Rehabilitation Assessment and Therapy Centre

There are more but these are generally just to get you started on the path to rehabilitation. Remember to take care of yourself as you are valuable and your health is important to us all.

Until next Monday do take note of your mental stresses. Write them down, find out what your triggers are and avoid them but most importantly share the love of life with all those you come into contact with. Be blessed❤
