You think?

For the longest time, I’ve been getting my extra slices of fat trimmed down by life. I’ve always known I loved writing, but I also thought I loved other things as much which made having any direction laughable.

Hi, welcome to my blog where I discuss ideas and hope to engage with you all on what we need to do and our various roles in getting things done. Most importantly however, may you be blessed as we take a journey through the workings of my mind.

Our education system technically speaking is great, it has all the right policies, infrastructure is somewhat available and it gets students in tons. But why is it failing? And why is this article titled You think?

Well after graduating high school I found that I wasn’t really prepared for society like most of the people I know. Then I graduated and found that I wasn’t also really prepared for society. Both times I looked at the bulk of what I did in school and wondered what exactly was the point of all those years if I hardly get to use what I learnt when it matters most?

We graduated and yelled at the government because we went to school and studied, but society had no jobs for us. The biggest problem with this scenario is we act as we have been taught and truth be told, much can be done with regards to how and possibly what we are taught.

I believe there is a stereotype especially about blacks I would love to see banished;

If you want to hide something from a black person, simply put it in a book.

I believe books have a power to educate, empower, and develop. Some would even argue, that only some books provide this power, that is a whole conversation for another time.

However, I would like to state that reading and writing are fundamental skills that everyone needs to learn if we are to progress. To clarify, writing isn’t just via the use of words, as our powers of writing may differ and only use words to as the language of translation for the creation.

And reading also just isn’t words and sentences alone. But regardless of which aspect from the broad spectrum of read and write we decide to use, we come to an interesting conversation, is this not something we are already doing?

To certain degrees I feel like half heartedly we read and write, but we miss one vital component especially with those who are still in school hoping to pursue their role in the life that they will live forever.

This component is, healthy discussion of what has been read or written. We read to better understand and reason, reading by itself doesn’t get you understanding or reasoning but having ideas challenged based on perceived understanding allows us to create our own ideas thereby allowing us to become free thinkers.

Writing gives us the power of creation, and creation is basically providing solutions to something. I’m not saying these solutions are the best, but they do drag us away from complaints and give us the courage to bring answers to the table instead of problems alone.

So reading and writing if done properly can cause a change so vast that ultimately the whole world is changed. But that’s alot for one blog post and as this conversation continues to expand we can be assured that we shall discuss it in further details.

Is education as it is sustainable for our future and what can we do to ensure we are prepared for society?
