Be Your Hero!

It’s almost the end of October 2019, practically almost the end of 2019 even as my birthday rows ever so close. As the new year, new me celebrations go round and you catch yourself asking, “why do we do this all the time but nothing changes” this is for you.

2019 isn’t rush to a close as some would have you believe, no it’s simply moving at the exact same pace as it always has. Then why is it people have us convinced the days are moving so fast?

It’s because when we don’t pay attention to what’s happening, everything seems to come out of nowhere.

When we don’t pay attention to ourselves, everything seems to come out of nowhere. The biggest problem with us mellinnials is we lack the patience to see out a task to fruition. We give up too easily, they say, we like the easy life.

Whether it’s TRUE or not they raised us, so instead of allowing their criticisms to stop us from being productive, we need to ask ourselves, “How can I become my own hero?”

Discover what you like, something you would do even if no one paid you to do it. That is usually where your thing will be. Now this shouldn’t be based on anything but what excites you most and if you can’t answer that right now, that’s fine. Go try a few things and literally see what excites you most.

The reason I started there is because without an active goal or mission we sometimes lack the momentum to want to improve ourselves, whatever improvements you feel you need to make.

This will set you on a path of definition, who are you? What do you like? What do you want to be when you grow up? Because growth never stops and we constantly must be willing to discover who we are becoming.

Being a hero isn’t what happens at the end of the story, it’s about who the hero is throughout the story. What he says, and ultimately what story he is willing to die upon.

It’s about having the bravery to stand, or sit uncomfortably in your truth, because sometimes who we are is not always the prettiest, but it is, who we are.

It’s about being brave to be counted or being brave enough to not join a cause we do not believe, even if we’re the only ones.

But more than any of these things being brave is allowing ourselves to be who we are truthfully. However, truth comes at a cost, a high cost. It costs everything and believe it will come knocking at the door to collect. But without truth, there is no happiness, and at times being a hero means knowing the cost and being ready to accept the price.

Iron Man understood that, he understood that to be a hero is a sacrifice of self, and so he never shied away from who he was;

Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist

-Tony Stark

I’m not saying his an ideal role model, I’m saying he was human and he knew himself. To be a hero, to be loving, to be successful, you need a firm understanding of self. By understanding who we are, do we then become better equipped to be heroes.

For what is a hero if not a person choosing to make an attempt at the difficult play while everyone else runs to safety. Be a hero, not for the masses but for self.
