A pioneer of chaotic football: Tiago Motta..

I remember when Tiago Motta started testing a strange 3-4-3-1 formation with the keeper as part of the in-field players.

He has silently been ironing out his football kinks and now is helping Bologna in the Seria A to a Champions League spot. Except this time his practically thrown out formations and just told his players it’s time for vibes.

His demands his players understand the relational phase of the game as it is happening and insists his players give their maximum participation. You’ll see an attack beginning to form and the center back will run without the ball to just basically be another body in the attacking phase.

You’ll see the CF in defense picking up the ball and just adding another body to proceedings. It’s chaotic football at the most especially with every other manager insisting on players being in position. He and his players know their positions but as soon as the game starts he expects them to do what is best in the moment.

This kind of football is beautiful but also means like any world class team they will need classy players to make this system work even more. But how many classy players want to be work horses?

However far he goes I’ll say this about Tiago Motta, he really wants to add his own dimension to this beautiful game of football and whatever it costs him I’m sure glad I get to witness.
