This piece below took me over a year to write. A very difficult year of adjusting to life after the lose of a father to me and many others, a brother, a son and teacher to many more.
Having to continue living life after tragic loss is weird, because at first it always hurts and then life goes on. Then out of nowhere minding my own business I’d be hit with a memory. Some place, joke, even clothes at times would suddenly spark a memory and I’d be right back there.
Sitting next to him listening to all his stories of his many lives lived. Instead of washing my face and searching for a distraction I started writing. This is the eventual result, I would start writing, then get lost in thought and start tearing up then I’d stop because, ain’t nobody have time to let the emotions get overwhelming or things won’t move.
It really hurts knowing I’ll never hear another joke or story layered with your own life lessons. Or how suddenly you’d get serious when something was amiss. Even writing this right now isn’t so easy, but truth be told I’m fine with these feelings.
I’ve made peace with the price of opening up those memories. Totally worth it!
I hope my on going experience makes you realise that you’re not alone. We are all going through our own version of hell but that shouldn’t make you feel like you’re alone in this world. We are all alone in this together!
