Quarantine came at an interesting time in life, its chaos brought organisation to the world. They say in chaos there is opportunity, but I’d like to add there is only opportunity where preparation has occurred. So technically speaking starting a business would have occurred with or without the aid of Covid19. Whatever would have been I doubt it would have occurred as quickly as it has without Covid19.
For a while now I’ve been blogging and trying to figure out many different ways to use my love for writing to finance my livelihood. I’m particularly certain I am not alone in this endeavor and it’s been a journey.
Constantly checking statistics, and hoping to get feedback for an understanding of how others perceive what you’re trying to do. A few years grappling with what to do, and how to do it. And then stumbling upon a business which truth be told I look back and notice I was pushing for a year ago and didn’t even realise it.
The birthdays gave me an idea, help people write special personalized messages. Help people connect with those they love, or maybe loved. Help people ensure they send a message with confidence and a surety of what exactly they wanted to say being said.
It was poetry, looking for a connection through my sense of truth and hoping beyond all hope I wasn’t alone who felt that way. A year later I wanted to package special cards on birthdays for those I love. However I didn’t want to buy a generic card because I wanted the cards to have a life long effect, still being read years after it was given.
I have been excited everyday of my trying to find clients interested in sending a message to those they love. It started with love but it turns out some people want to send messages to break up, divorce, appreciate, end relations amicably.
There is a saying, “no good deed goes unpunished” and the truth behind those words cannot be escaped because once you do the good deed there usually comes a responsibility you might not have seen coming. A responsibility that holds one accountable and accountability usually isn’t sexy.
However, when you’re passionate, excited and all those other things the accountability is something you find yourself looking forward to. Especially when there is nothing to show for it.
How to run a business in 2020 usually is more about advertising yourself through social media consistently. That has been the interesting challenge, to constantly put something out there even with that shows what a personalized message looks like or answering questions on how it’s made or simply ending the day without making a sell and wondering what more can I do.
Understanding that Rome wasn’t built in a day reminds me that this whole idea is still young and in its infancy. I’m not worried about the business booming but I have made a realisation in that not a lot of people are keen into sending personalized messages. Not because they have nothing to say, but because they don’t know if what they have to say is worth being said.
This is usually a result of a lack of communication between a lot of us. That tells me that now more than ever we need to open our hearts and tell others especially those we love and even those who have hurt us. What is on our minds and even what’s been on upon our hearts. It’s not easy to open up especially cause we have to use words and those words have to make sense.
That is why I decided to start helping people create personalized messages. Now more than ever we want to repair bridges, or to give those we love their roses while they can still smell them. Even to break away from toxic situations while we are still able to. If that’s you comment or DM or WhatsApp me.
In truth this entire post isn’t just a way to advertise my business but to convince you to start your own. Whatever excuses you might have I challenge you to remember that you only have one life to live. It’s taken me more than two years from the moment it became apparent that I needed to find a means to monetize my creative writing. I could simply be slow, you might be faster or yours might be slower. However, if you will find success and joy in what you do then you must close yourself from the noise of the outside world.
This means no comparisons to others and their process as long as everyday you’re alive you make an intentional decision to pursue your goals. Covid19 won’t shut us down forever, when all this is done what will you be thankful you invested yourself in?

The opportunity to do business is always going to come secondary to the opportunity to share and spread love. I hope as we all tread cautiously we will still find the time to love all those we come into contact with.
