Iqhawe Ring: Ep 13

Samm sat at their eating spot, at the end of one of the long dining hall tables, however finding himself alone. He kept checking over his shoulder, hoping to notice either Mulenga or Kezipe.

There was a plate and fork stabbing at a piece of bacon left unattended. Which halted Samm from remaining alone longer than he normally would, hoping to stumble into a friend to walk back with. The end of break siren bellowed throughout the hall causing Samm panic.

Everyone had been looking at Samm, as if to signal against him sitting there, some even remarked to themselves;
“Sitting with losers makes you a loser”
“That kid’s a freak too? but he’s adorable, you can’t tell.”

The door was far off, Samm felt caged with all eyes coming from every angle, watching him intently. Like one would watch a lion at a zoo, with a hint of caution. The bellow was a welcome relief as the students hurried off to their various classes leaving Samm in those halls all by himself. He had been clutching his book in his chest, with his eyes closed, until the only sound he could hear was his breath.

Leaving the dining hall, Samm made a turn headed towards the girl’s room, away from where his classes were going to be taking place.

Mulenga had been shocked to see the figure standing next to Kezipe. Mulenga hadn’t seen him before, but in an inexplicable, unsaid and unrecognised telepathic moment, she knew they’d be seeing a lot more of him. He was taller than Kezipe, but his height was not the most shocking thing, Mulenga decided to sit down as she consumed Mbunji’s beauty.

He was a tall dark-skinned, blue-eyed exotic beauty adorning a crown of white hair on his head. After struggling to construct a proper sentence, Kezipe put Mulenga out of her misery by introducing Mbunji and watching with pleasure as another person asked Mbunji all sorts of questions concerning his appearance.
“Is that hair dyed or your original colour?”
“Are those actually eyes?”
“What kind of person are you?”

Mulenga asked question after question after question, without allowing Mbunji a turn to process what he had stepped into. Kezipe hadn’t realised it was that embarrassing to watch as she covered her face, praying the ground would swallow her away from that moment.

Collapsing into her bed from the shock of her friend having no filter to cover over her mouth before she spoke.

Samm took a turn into Mulenga’s hallway; noticing their open door, he made a dash for the safety of what had become part of his normalcy.
Samm stumbled into the door, in his dash to make it, his misplaced step tripped him into the door stump, landing with a crash and fitting into the disorganized scene in the room.

Samm lay on his back staring at an upside down scene; Mulenga seated on the floor with open books around her, Kezipe lying on the bed and a mysterious white haired dark boy, all staring at Samm’s entry. It took a while for everyone to organise themselves, with Kezipe speaking for Mbunji to stick around, they decided it would be best for each to tell their story so they can start together on a good note.

Mbunji disclosed without hesitation to being the son of a billionaire.
“Mom sent me here. She said if I survive this school then she will trust me with learning to run her empire” Samm, being the youngest, had also the least experience with life and living.
“Ma, tells me I’m her special genius. I’m really smart I love making things.”
Kezipe looked around the small room anxiously before opening up about her unusual nature.
“I’m not sure, but my mom isn’t human. I don’t know what she is, or what I am, but I’m not completely human.”

The atmosphere grew more tense with the lastest sharing, but no one spoke out of turn, leaving Mulenga to close off the session.
“I found these books, attached with a note, asking me if I’m interested in my history. I think I come from a group of Lozi warriors who broke away from the main tribe. But I don’t understand what any of it means.”

The group collectively sighed, forcing the tension to climb out through all the open available spaces. Staying silent, each was wondering how to discuss the various elephants in the room. The door suddenly closed shut with an envelope appearing in the envelope holder attached to the door.
Opening the door, Kezipe searched the hallways but no one stood out suspiciously.

Carrying the envelope back to the group, she opened it revealing a most surprising message.
“I have gathered 4, for a reason. Get friendly. All shall be revealed soon.”

With no name attached to the letter the foursome were left intrigued by the message and what it could mean.
